St. Aubyn’s Nursery is a warm and welcoming place where children are happy to play and learn. The children join us at 3 years of age and quickly settle into their new surroundings.

The Nursery is based on the main school site and is part of the Pre Prep Department. Nursery children have access to the All Weather Pitch, the ‘Secret Playground’ and the dedicated wooded area immediately next to the Nursery. The children are supervised at all times by qualified, caring staff.

Throughout the week the children in the Nursery visit the Library, the Sports Hall and the Symonds Performing Arts Centre. They also eat their lunch in the Dining Hall each day.

The learning experience aims to inspire the child inside and outside of the classroom. The curriculum meets the criteria outlined in the EYFS framework. Specific learning objectives are designed around 3 prime areas:

• Communication and Language,
• Physical Development,
• Personal, Social and Emotional Development

and 4 specific areas:

• Literacy
• Maths
• Understanding of the World
• Expressive Arts and Design

Children work to objectives outlined in these areas of learning.

Our staff provide a stimulating, nurturing environment where each child’s needs are catered for through our play based curriculum. Children learn through a wide and varied range of play, and we firmly believe that learning should be absorbing, challenging and plenty of fun! This approach provides a basic grounding in numeracy and literacy, thereby enabling children to progress into their primary education with a sense of achievement and confidence.

When they leave the Nursery the children move into our Reception classes which are located next to the Nursery, thus providing easy transition and a familiar environment for the children to continue to flourish.
