The PE & Games Department has indoor and outdoor facilities which include an Indoor Sports Hall with Badminton, Basketball, Football, Netball and Volleyball Court markings. Outdoor facilities include a large field, an all-weather pitch, a hardcourt area, 2 Cricket Nets and a fitness trail. The main field is marked with football pitches for the Lent and Spring terms and has a synthetic Cricket pitch for use in the Summer along with rounders pitches and athletics markings.
The Department has two full-time members of staff, a part-time Dance teacher and a Girls’ Games teaching assistant. They are supported by a large number of teachers, teaching assistants and Sports Centre staff who assist with the delivery of lessons throughout the week. Swimming lessons are taught by external swimming teachers from the Waltham Forest Pool & Track.
Our aim is to improve physical fitness and individual ability; to promote positive attitudes towards participation; to give a varied and enjoyable experience of physical activities and finally to develop self-confidence and esteem. To achieve these aims, the department strives to give all pupils equal chance to achieve their full potential in physical activities in lessons and in extra-curricular activities by providing training sessions, recreational clubs, inter-house and inter-school competitions and by entering pupils into trials and tournaments.

Co-Curricular Sport

Co-Curricular Sport is an important part of school life at St. Aubyn’s. The Department’s ethos is one which encourages participation by all so all pupils have the opportunity to play in their House sports teams from Year 3 onwards. All pupils will also have had the opportunity to represent the School at sport by the end of Year 6.
We expect our pupils to have considerable pride in representing the School. Our teams are expected to behave impeccably when involved in inter-school matches, showing good manners and being generous in victory and dignified in defeat. We regularly field teams in athletics, cricket, cross-country, football, netball, swimming, rounders and tennis.
Inter-school activity is seen to further the social aspects of sport, broaden the participant's horizons, offer increased challenge to the most able pupils and extends enjoyment. When appropriate, able pupils are entered for representative team trials.
The Department also aims to provide a range of other co-curricular activities. Individual and team activities are provided which allow both competition and recreation. Such activities include athletics, badminton, basketball, football, dance, indoor cricket, hockey, tennis, table tennis and Mile-a-time club (running). Inter - House competitions take place in a number of sports from Years 3-8. These are seen as an enjoyable and valuable extension to a module of curriculum work in each activity.
