Admissions Procedure

As Admissions Registrar it is a pleasure to meet parents and their children to show them around the School and to help them settle into their education at St. Aubyn’s.

The main points of entry to the school are the Early Years Foundation Stage (Nursery and Reception) and at ages 7+ (Year 3) and 11+ (Year 7), with entry at other ages dependent upon vacancies occurring.

NURSERY

Entry to Nursery is by date of registration, therefore registrations should be made as soon as possible as lists for entry are generally in excess of the places available.

All prospective parents are invited to visit the School either before or after registration. This does not include Open Day. Offers will not be made unless parents have visited the School and met the Headmaster.

RECEPTION

When a vacancy arises in Reception, registered applicants will be invited to attend an informal assessment within the School setting. The assessments are age-appropriate and designed to identify applicants who are able to benefit from our balanced and well-rounded curriculum and who will make a positive contribution towards the life of the School, including positive social interaction with their peers. Children entering Reception will be expected to integrate successfully with the current cohort, both emotionally and socially, and to demonstrate excellent behaviour.

Applicants who are assessed and do not meet the required behavioural, social and emotional standards can stay on the waiting list for possible entry into Year 1 and beyond.

It is also advisable to register early for entry to older age groups. Entry at this stage is by selective process.

7+ ENTRY (YEAR 3)

In the Lent Term, registered applicants are invited to attend a day of activities, which will include assessment in Mathematics, English and reading.

To gain entry, applicants must satisfy the assessment criteria, showing the potential to be able to cope with the School’s rigorous academic curriculum and meet the requirements for a Senior School in the future. In addition, applicants must also receive a satisfactory reference from their current school.

The School offers limited bursary assisted places to eligible applicants entering the School at 7+.

11+ ENTRY (YEAR 7)

In the Lent Term, there are formal assessment tests in Mathematics, English and verbal reasoning. Applicants will also be interviewed individually or in very small groups.

Two academic scholarships to a maximum of 50% of school fees are available and open to all applicants for Years 7 and 8.

The online registration form is available below. There is a non-refundable registration fee of £90 which should be paid online. A further deposit of £500 is payable when a firm place is accepted (and returned once your child has left the school provided that he/she remains at the school at least until the end of Year 6).
