Every child deserves to be challenged and supported in equal measure. Our approach to specialist teaching and academic challenge ensures that pupils with diverse needs a whether they require extra support or further extension, receive the tailored attention they need to flourish.
Led by Mrs Charlotte Six-Rais (Head of Learning Support), our provision combines classroom expertise, specialist assessment and close partnership with families to identify needs early and respond with precision and care. Challenge for All is the guiding principle of every lesson.
We offer specialist-led teaching in small classes, featuring academic stretch programmes, inclusive co-curricular opportunities, and expert SEND support from the very start.
Additional learning needs are identified through multiple channels: staff expertise and classroom observation including the EYFS profile, academic tests, parental concerns, specialist assessment, and reports from outside agencies.
Staff consistently observe and reflect on the learning of every child with considerable knowledge and skill. Where additional support is needed, it is delivered through adapted planning, targeted intervention, and, where appropriate, specialist one-to-one sessions. Recommendations from external specialist reports are implemented to ensure continuity between school and home.

More able pupils, those whose abilities in a subject area are significantly and consistently above the expectation for their age, are identified and challenged through enrichment opportunities, extension work that deepens understanding and develops higher-order thinking, all part of the school’s participation in the NACE Challenge Award programme.
Our Challenge for All approach ensures that academic stretch is not reserved for a select few. Every pupil is encouraged to reach beyond what they thought possible, supported by staff who understand their individual strengths and motivations.
St. Aubyn’s is a genuinely inclusive school. Approximately one third of our pupils live in a multi-lingual home, and they are closely monitored to ensure full access to the curriculum and the support they need to thrive.
We work in close partnership with families, external specialists and our pastoral team to ensure every child – regardless of their starting point – is known, valued and equipped to succeed. Our inclusive culture is one of the school’s defining strengths, and it is reinforced through a variety of events, including Wear Your Story Day, our diverse community and a pastoral approach that celebrates individuality.
