The Parents’ Handbook is a detailed document which is updated annually and distributed to all parents on Pupil Transition Day, prior to the start of the new school year.
In addition to whole school information, it includes organisational details for Nursery, Pre-Prep, Prep, co-curricular activities, medical matters, before and after school care and uniform.

This handbook is designed to supply parents with information about the procedures and routines that we have at St. Aubyn’s School.
The dress code and uniform requirements for each section of the School are provided on page 36 of the Handbook for Parents.
We are a group of interested parents and staff bringing about events and initiatives to benefit the lives of the families and staff at our school.
We are committed to enriching the community spirit of our school.
One of the ways we do this is by running a busy calendar of events throughout the school year. We have annual events such as Fireworks and Camp Night and others that we alternate each year, such as the Circus and the Summer Fete.
The money we raise is used to purchase items to help the school. We have funded the purchase of minibuses, tiered seating in the PAC, a secret playground for Pre-Prep, improved wi-fi, iPads and digital cameras. We even funded the outdoor amphitheatre, which was completed in 2017.
The SASS Initiatives are there to improve the experience of the pupils, staff and families at St. Aubyn’s. These initiatives are the little touches brought about to help either parents, children or staff on a more regular basis.
SASS set up and runs the enormously successful second hand uniform shop which reuses hundreds of good quality items of uniform each year. It is located in the wooden building between the main entrance and the Nursery. Opening times are advertised to parents. This is an enormously valuable resource for our parents.
SASS also contributes to seasonal gifts for the children (Christmas and Easter), provides the annual Christmas trees and makes a significant contribution to the Year 6 leavers’ party each year.
We also look to our network of reps to help with refreshments for various school events and hold a start of term coffee morning to welcome parents back to the new term and inform them of the upcoming events.

Our pupils come from a large catchment area with many of them living too far from School to walk in.
As a result, many of our pupils travel to School by car. We try to encourage safe and considerate parking, walking and cycling to School.
Recent initiatives are detailed below.
‘Park and Stride’ is a scheme designed to reduce traffic around schools. The idea is that parents park at least five minutes from School and pupils walk the remaining distance. A Walking Zone Map can be downloaded by clicking the button below.
Parents can purchase a permit to use the Borough car parks at School drop off and pick up times (until 4:15 pm). The cost is just £35 for a year. The nearest car park is in Derby Road which is approximately a six minute walk from School. The Hawkey Hall car park to the North is approximately a twelve minute walk from School.
There is an agreement with Salway Church (at the top of Forest Approach) allowing parents to park in the Church car park to the left of the main entrance, the side furthest from Forest Approach. Parents and carers may park here entering and exiting the car park from the High Road only from 8.15 to 9.00 am and 3.15 to 4.15 pm, but only in term time. There is no arrangement for parking at lunchtime.
On the first Friday of every month, we hold a workshop and coffee morning led by Mrs Charlotte Six-Rais, the Head of Learning Support, covering a variety of topics.
Sessions are focused on learning and sharing knowledge, as well as personal experiences. Together, we enhance the tools in our kit to navigate the experiences of our children, from executive function through to emotional regulation.

We encourage you to attend as many sessions as are relevant to your child(ren). The opportunity to sign up for workshops is shared via parent emails and the school newsletter. Upcoming topics include Understanding and increasing intrinsic motivation, Brain development: why kids “flip their lids”, Playground politics: understanding and managing conflict in friendships and Social communication & speech and language.

During this session, we look into what a growth mindset is and why it matters, how intrinsic motivation supports long-term success, strategies to encourage resilience and independence at home and ways to help children respond positively to challenge and setbacks.
This parent workshop explores Phonics – Reading and Writing. This workshop supports parents in understanding phonics throughout the development of their child’s skills and its essential role in reading and writing. We explore helpful tips to support your child at home and a selection of online resources.
This parent workshop explores Sibling Rivalry. We look at how parents can support their children to develop lasting relationships, points of tension between siblings, according to personality traits and age, and, as always, supportive tips that can be used at home during arguments and conflict, as well as creating activities that bring them closer together.
This parent workshop explores Child Development and the four key areas of progression: physical, language, cognition and social/emotional alonside age milestones. Parents are provided with tools and prompts to use at home to continue supporting children’s development.
This parent workshop explores The Power of Routine. We explore why routines matter, examples of weekly routines and when they don’t go to plan.
This parent workshop explores Executive Function skills and how they impact learning, behaviour, and independence. Discover practical strategies to help your child develop focus, organisation, and problem-solving skills.
This parent workshop focuses on exploring the difference between maths anxiety and dyscalculia. Learn how to recognise the signs of each and discover practical ways and strategies to support your child’s confidence and progress in maths.
This workshop explores our teaching approaches, policies, and strategies for supporting mathematical learning in both Pre-Prep and Prep. Learn how maths is taught across the school and how you can help at home.
For parents to explore common online worries and practical strategies for keeping children safe. We cover topics such as talking to your child, family rules, screen time, social media, and gaming.
A practical workshop exploring how children develop fine motor skills and handwriting. We’ll share strategies and activities you can use at home to support your child’s confidence and progress in these essential skills.
A workshop to explore the whole-school approach to mental health and wellbeing. This session will explore how we support pupils’ emotional resilience, promote positive relationships, and foster a healthy, balanced school environment. Parents will gain insight into the strategies used across the school, as well as within Place2Be, and how they can support their child’s wellbeing at home.
