St. Aubyn’s School celebrates the incredible achievements of Mrs. L Wright, their inspirational Girls’ Games and PE Teacher, who represented England in the Women’s Masters Hockey World Cup held in Auckland, New Zealand, from 7 to 17 November 2024.
Mrs. Wright’s journey to international representation is truly remarkable. Sharing her story, she revealed that her venture into Masters Hockey began just last year. Representing the East of England in the regional finals, she demonstrated skill, dedication, and an indomitable spirit. Encouraged by her family, particularly her two daughters, Mrs. Wright attended England trials. Competing among 80 talented players, her determination carried her through the selection stages.
At the beginning of 2024, Mrs. Wright received the exciting news that she had been selected for both the Home Nations squad and the team travelling to the World Cup in Auckland. Reflecting on this milestone, she shared:
“It was quite an achievement and one which has made me and all my family and friends so proud. We won the Home Nations in the summer, beating Ireland, Scotland, and Wales. The trip to Auckland was amazing and shows that whatever your age and at any stage of your life, with effort and determination, dreams can come true.”
The tournament in Auckland brought together elite athletes from around the world, showcasing skill, teamwork, and passion for the sport. Mrs. Wright’s contributions on the field were pivotal, furthering both the existing admiration and respect that the entire St. Aubyn’s School community hold for her.
Since her return, Mrs. Wright has been overwhelmed by the warm messages and support from her colleagues, students, and parents at St. Aubyn’s School. Her achievement stands as a powerful source of inspiration, encouraging students to pursue their dreams and embrace challenges with courage.
Speaking to her students, Mrs. Wright emphasized the importance of perseverance, aligning her experience with the school’s 140-year-old motto: Bravely, Faithfully, Happily.
“I have been blown away with all the support and kind messages from the staff and pupils at school since I have returned. Thank you so much to you all,” she said.
To further inspire the next generation, St. Aubyn’s School has received a wonderful video from Master’s team Captain, Paula Nicholas, which will be shared with the school’s current hockey teams.
Congratulations to Mrs. Wright for her outstanding achievement and for reminding us all that with hard work and bravery, aspirations can become a reality.
